In an age of busyness and anxiety, a set rest period gives boys the opportunity to settle and recharge. Though many of us as adults would adore a scheduled siesta each day, most boys would naturally continue swimming, crafting or working on awards without a break. Rest Hour is an unexpected means to see the value of sabbath in a world that never stops.

Camper and staff one-on-ones are a major part of the success of the Deerfoot model. One-on-ones can happen on the Boss Hill adirondack chairs, in canoes on Trout Lake and on countless walks on the camp roads. Wherever they happen, these regular connections are the bones of our mentoring ministry and have been part of a legacy of spiritual transformation in the lives of boys and men over more than nine decades.

At present, the following camp sessions have availability. As a reminder, DL sections are: Woodsmen (age 9-12), Pioneer (age 13-14), BR Mountaineer/ADK Island (age 15-16), and Voyager Program (age 16-17). Please check the website for session dates at each site.

At the end of a camp session, not only will each camper have a story to share, but so will their dirty laundry. A mom of 4 Deerfoot campers-turned-summer-staffers shares a piece of great advice:

“Have [your camper] unpack the trunk in the driveway or garage so he can shake all the sand, dirt, and sticks out before bringing clothes into the house. Ask him to tell you the story about why the clothes are so dirty. Listen to the mess and do not let it bother you - the clothing tells a fabulous story!”

Even though they may be young college students, they are trained well for the mission and ministry. Men mentoring men then mentoring campers. It works!”
